An Albanese Labor Government will provide $100,000 to help deliver better aged care services for the Darwin and Palmerston Greek community by supporting the Kalymnian Brotherhood work towards establishing a Greek Seniors Retirement Village.
Territorians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds face additional barriers accessing aged care, especially services that meet their cultural, linguistic and religious needs.
Labor’s commitment will make a real difference to the lives of Greek seniors in Darwin and Palmerston. It will mean that the Kalymnian Brotherhood can conduct a feasibility and business case for the village on their own land.
“This facility will mean Greek seniors – who contributed so much to build the modern cities of Darwin and Palmerston – can receive culturally appropriate care and support during their twilight years,” said Luke Gosling, the federal Member for Solomon.
The village will cater to both single and couple residents, with one- and two-bedroom apartments with their own garden beds to keep residents active and busy.
There will also be rooms for seniors who aren’t able to care for themselves, along with staff rooms, a nurses’ office, recreational area and dining room.
An Albanese Labor Government will also join forces with the Maggie Beer Foundation and alliance partners to improve food in aged care – because residents should get the healthy and high-quality meals they need and deserve which respects cultural and religious requirements.
Labor will make sure older culturally and linguistically diverse Australians have access to the high quality, culturally sensitive support they need and deserve.
