Labor commits to improvements for local Top End schools

An Albanese Labor Government will invest $400,000 in Bakewell Primary School to construct a new carpark and kiss-and-go area.

Bakewell is one of the largest primary schools in the Northern Territory, with over 1,000 students.

At pick-up and drop-off times, cars constantly pull in and out of the kiss-and-go zone and the car park overflows, posing a risk to student safety. Parents have resorted to parking in loading zones, on nature strips and on footpaths while waiting to collect their children.

In consultation with the community, Federal Labor will upgrade the kiss-and-go area and add up to 30 car parks. This will improve traffic flow and safety.

An Albanese Labor Government will also invest $30,000 to install a new shade cloth over the Wagaman Primary School and Preschool playground.

This will help cool the area and keep children out of the sun as they play, essential in the Top End when temperatures can be so consistently high.

Federal Labor cares about our local school communities. Only a Federal Labor government will invest in infrastructure improvements to give Territory students the safe learning environment they need and deserve.
