Tonight, the Albanese Labor Government has handed down its Budget and families and businesses across Solomon are set to benefit.

“This is a Budget that delivers on our promises, and provides cost of living relief for our community,” said Luke Gosling, Federal Member for Solomon.

“This is a responsible and practical Budget that will help take the pressure off families.”

In addition to its existing initiatives on cheaper childcare and cheaper medicines, Labor has announced a new Energy Price Relief Plan that will provide relief for Territory households.

Under the Energy Price Relief Plan, delivered in partnership with the Fyles Government, eligible NT households will receive a $350 annual energy rebate on their power bills, while eligible small businesses will be able to access a $650 rebate.

“We are also making an historic investment to strengthen Medicare, tripling bulk billing incentives, which will see immediate benefits for many Territorians.”

“I know that this will make a real difference in household budgets – helping families in our community to get ahead.”

Treasurer, Dr Jim Chalmers, said that the program was just one example of how the Albanese Labor Government was delivering for Solomon.

“We made a promise to the Australian people, that after a wasted decade we would work hard every day,” said the Treasurer.

“This Budget is about delivering a stronger foundation for a better future.”

“Labor is delivering the positive and lasting change that Australians voted for, by making childcare cheaper, expanding paid parental leave, delivering fee-free TAFE, saving households money on their power bills, making medicines cheaper and getting wages moving again.

Medicare Bulk Billing Incentive Eligibility

$3.5 billion boost that will help GPs provide bulk billed consultations to around 40,000 people in Solomon  – Including children, pensioners and other concession card holders.

And it will ensure that for millions of people, the quality of your healthcare is guaranteed not by your credit card – but by your Medicare card.

Energy Price Relief Plan

The Energy Price Relief Rebates jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments will be delivered via energy companies in the form of rebates. They will be automatically applied to energy bills.

Pensioners, veterans, seniors and other concession card holders, as well as recipients of Carer Allowance, Family Tax Benefit, and anyone eligible for existing Northern Territory electricity concession schemes will be eligible for the rebate.

Small businesses that meet the definition of electricity ‘small customer’ in the Northern Territory will receive bill relief automatically from 1 July 2023.
