Yesterday Territorians interested in the opportunities for increased trade and engagement between the Northern Territory and India took part in India IdeasFest at the Darwin Innovation Hub.
India IdeasFest was the latest in the IdeasFest series, founded by the Member for Solomon Luke Gosling to connect entrepreneurs, businesses and the community in the spirit of innovation and collaboration.
Attendees heard from a diverse range of speakers, including Professor Sivaram Vemuri, who spoke about the importance of people to people links as the building blocks of the Australia-India relationship.
The audience were also able to hear from Fiona Shalley, Research Fellow at the Northern Institute on the important role that migrants from India will play on shaping the Territory’s future.
Mr Gosling said that the strong turnout showed that Territorians are keenly aware of the value in further strengthening the relationship between India and Australia.
“India is one of the world’s fastest growing economies and a key growth market for local Territory businesses.
“The Northern Territory’s strategic location offers the potential to work closely with India to meet their expanding needs in sectors including IT, agribusiness, education and tourism.
“We are perfectly positioned to work with India to deliver expertise, technology and research and development from the mining, engineering, technology and services sectors.
“It was fantastic to see such a wide range of Territorians at the Darwin Innovation Hub, working together to develop ways that the Northern Territory and India can grow connections into the future.”
