MEDIA RELEASE – LABOR INVESTS IN EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR THE NT

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $2 million in strategies to raise educational outcomes in the Northern Territory.

Labor’s funding will support Charles Darwin University to address attrition rates in higher education, particularly among regional and remote students. CDU will adopt a holistic approach to improve student retention and success, including providing best practice student support services.

With Labor’s funding, CDU will also work to strengthen Indigenous employment opportunities. As a dual-sector university with a high proportion of Indigenous students, CDU is well placed to develop pathways between school, vocational and higher education studies.

Today’s announcement is on top of Labor’s $14 million investment to establish a world class teaching hub at Charles Darwin University’s Pamerston campus. The hub will lead research and deliver teacher training designed to lift student achievement in outback areas and Indigenous communities.

This election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better universities, hospitals and schools, or bigger tax loopholes for the top end of town under the Liberals.

After six years of Liberal cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready.
